REDUCTION OF FORMALDEHYDE
IN WET STRENGTH ADDITIVES:
In order to impart certain strength or water-resistance to corrugated shipping
containers, formaldehyde-based resins have been used as an ingredient in
cornstarch adhesives. Beginning in 1989, Green Bay Packaging converting plants
implemented steps to reduce the release of formaldehyde by selecting products
which have low formaldehyde contents. Whereas in the past, products containing
as much as 3% free formaldehyde had been used, today products with less than
0.5% free formaldehyde are being employed.
TOTAL REDUCED SULPHUR CONTROL SYSTEM:
Kraft pulp mills have a very distinctive characteristic odor. Green Bay
Packaging's Goslin division designed a control system, which through a
combination of condensing and incineration, significantly reduced the odors
associated with a kraft mill. The first system was installed at our Arkansas
Kraft Mill in Morrilton, Arkansas. The unit performs well, and has
significantly reduced the objectionable odors from the mill.
