WISCONSIN POLLUTION
PREVENTION PARTNERSHIP
Green Bay Packaging Inc. is one of the twenty-seven member companies of the
Wisconsin Paper Council who are elective participants in a "Pollution
Prevention Partnership" developed in conjunction with the Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources. This pollution prevention program is focusing
on the voluntary reduction of the release of over 100 chemical substances and
pollutants that could have an impact on the environment. Continuous activities
and research are ongoing at the Green Bay Mill Division to reduce or eliminate
the use and emission of any chemicals of concern, in particular volatile
organic compounds.
COPPER FREE PRINTING
INKS:
The utilization of copper free flexographic printing inks was initiated at Green
Bay Packaging converting facilities in December of 1993. Copper, which has been
traditionally utilized in the production of various blue and green inks has
been emerging as a metal of concern at Publicly Owned Treatment Works
throughout the United States, due to its potential toxic effects in aquatic
ecosystems. Green Bay Packaging has elected to pro-actively address this issue
by switching over to the more expensive copper free substitutes for blue and
green wherever possible.
