THE PRESIDENT'S
ENVIRONMENT and CONSERVATION CHALLENGE AWARD:
In October of 1991, Green Bay Packaging received a Citation Award in the
innovative category of the first President's Environment and Conservation
Challenge program sponsored by The Council of Environmental Quality. Green Bay
Packaging was specifically recognized by President Bush for the development of
new containerboards which utilized unique post consumer paper wastes.
WISCONSIN BUSINESS FRIEND
OF THE ENVIRONMENT AWARD:
The Wisconsin Environmental Working Group and Wisconsin Manufacturers &
Commerce Association presented Green Bay Packaging with its Wisconsin Business
Friend of the Environment Award for 1991. This award was given in recognition
of Green Bay Packaging's efforts in paper recycling and market development of
recycled products.
GREEN BAY MILL DIVISION
CONVERSION TO 100% RECYCLED FIBER:
In February 1991, Green Bay Packaging permanently shut down its pulp making
facilities at its Green Bay Mill and converted to a 100% recycled fiber mill.
As a result of this conversion, all respective environmental emissions
associated with on-site pulping operations have been eliminated. During
calendar year 2003, 207,972 tons of waste paper were diverted from deposit into
landfills and were recycled into containerboard at this mill.
LONG TERM RECYCLING
PROJECTS:
Green Bay Packaging committed to a multi-year $100 million capital expenditure
program that allowed the company to include more than 50% recycled fiber in the
corrugated containers they produce. Since 1991, Green Bay Packaging has
recycled more than 2,500,000 total tons of post consumer office waste,
corrugated containers, clippings and newspapers, at its two mill operations in
Wisconsin and Arkansas.
