REUSE OF PLASTIC
CONTAINERS:
Green Bay Packaging and its De Pere Shipping Container Division, along with a
national ink manufacturer and a locally based but nationally known container
reconditioner, undertook a comprehensive study of the feasibility of recycling
five-gallon plastic ink containers for reuse. Reconditioning equipment was
developed and trial runs initiated in late 1993. This project was the first of
its kind in the United States. Plastic ink pails, which previously contained
water-based flexographic inks, were returned to the respective ink suppliers
for reuse, instead of being disposed of in public landfills.
