STATE OF WISCONSIN
COMMENDATION FOR RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION:
The Wisconsin State Legislature via a resolution in 1971 commended Green Bay
Packaging for its research and industry initiative in the field of
environmental protection. This commendation was in recognition of the
development and utilization of a reverse osmosis process for water pollution
abatement. This process was the first of its type for pulp & paper in the
world.
CLOSURE OF PROCESS WATER
SYSTEM:
With the development of the fluidized bed combustion of spent pulping liquors,
Green Bay Packaging initiated further work on closing up the process water loop
at its Green Bay Mill. The substantial closure that resulted allowed the mill
division to exceed all applicable federal and state water quality standards set
forth for its wastewater discharge, without the utilization of an on-site
wastewater treatment plant.
