Green Bay Packaging Awarded Fifth Consecutive Green Master Designation

Green Bay Packaging (GBP) Wisconsin operations were recognized as a Green Master for the fifth consecutive year at the 7th Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council Annual Conference.

GBP produces corrugated shipping containers, 100% post-consumer recycled paper, pressure sensitive label stock and folding cartons as part of its Wisconsin operations. GBP was selected for the exclusive group of companies to earn a Green Master award, the highest tier in the Green Masters Program, established by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. As a Green Master, GBP performed commendable actions in nine sustainability areas, including energy, water, waste and social actions, and scored in the top twenty percent of all participating companies.

Green Bay Packaging Inc. to Acquire MidCon Holdings, LLC

GREEN BAY, WI – October 31, 2014 – Green Bay Packaging Inc. announced the acquisition of Great Lakes Packaging Corporation and Midland Container Corporation from MidCon Holdings, LLC, an Arbor Investment Company.  The acquisition is effective October 31, 2014 and terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Green Bay Packaging, Inc. Invests in New Press Section for Arkansas Kraft Division

GREEN BAY, WI – July 11, 2014 – Green Bay Packaging Inc. (GBP) announced that it is moving forward with a press section replacement for PM1 at its Arkansas Kraft Division in Morrilton Arkansas.  The $30 million project will include a new large nip press in the first press position, followed by a new shoe press in the second press position.  In addition, the project will include significant infrastructure upgrades to the press section framework and structural supports.  These PM1 upgrades will increase production by over 13% and significantly improve efficiency when running lightweight liner-board and medium.

The company is partnering with Voith Paper for equipment supply, and Robins & Morton for engineering services.  The press section replacement is scheduled for completion in July 2015, with an estimated downtime of 24 days.

Arkansas Kraft is an integrated, two machine, virgin mill, that produces between 420-440 thousand tons of paper per year.  Over the last five years, Green Bay Packaging has made significant investments in the mill including a new Paperchine base headbox in 2012, an above ground electrical power distribution system in 2012, and a Voith recycled-fiber-plant in 2011.  In addition to the press section replacement, GBP anticipates installing a new natural gas boiler in 2015.

Green Bay Mill to Host Green Bay Explorers Tour

Green Bay Packaging Green Bay Mill Division is hosting the Green Bay Engineering and Technology Career Explorers group February 3, 2014, for an educational tour focusing on environmental engineering, education, and career opportunities.

The Green Bay Engineering and Technology Career Explorers, started in September 2013, is a Learning for Life career education program for young adults ages 14 (who have completed 8th grade) through 20. The program was created with the purpose of giving information about careers and mentoring of the engineering fields through hands-on projects, guest speakers, tours and discussions. The group meets twice a month throughout the school year with qualified, successful men and women in the field.

“Participation in programs like this has helped students obtain college endorsements and an increased opportunity to secure a job in this field after graduation,” said Nancy Quirk, Explorer Adviser, and General Manager at Green Bay Water Utility.
